The history of Thailand begins with the migration of the Tai-Lao speaking people from their ancestral home in southern China into mainland southeast Asia around the 10th century AD. The Kingdom of Thailand as an all-powerful was formed in the mid-14th century. In 1776 the Burmese invaded the country and destroyed its capital. Thailand was known as Siam until 1934. It is one of all Southeast Asian countries which managed to prevent the colonization. A bloodless revolution in 1932 ended with the absolute monarchy and led to a constitutional monarchy. The greatest changes in all the history of Thailand took place in the 20th century. Practically all spheres of Thai life: political system, armed forces, schools, and economy were changed. In 1941 Thailand declared war on Britain and the United States. Nowadays Thailand is currently facing armed violence in its three Muslim-majority southernmost provinces, so the government has to keep down numerous conflicts.
